Les Cash came to South Africa in the early 1970`s as a fine art, antique & jewellery appraiser and auctioneer. He traveled the country extensively and spent a number of years in business in the Free State a province of South Africa, where he began his first pawn shop.

In the early 80`s he decided to return to Cape Town where he started Mr Cash from a small premises in Goodwood. As the business grew he expanded the shop space, eventually moving across the road to the present site.

In 1990 he established a relationship with the present Mrs Cash. Initially she had been involved with another successful business and still was a full time mother to her growing children.

However over time she started to take a more active interest in the business and started taking control on Wednesdays to give Mr Cash a free day to pursue other interests.
